UINTA BREWING COMPANY

Hop Notch IPA - SALT LAKE CITY UT - 7.3%ABV

by Derek Brewlander | July 11th, 2012

After sampling a few of these Salt Lake City brewed IPAs from Unita Brewing Company, it is definitely best served in a glass rather than straight from the bottle. This 7.3% Alc.-by-volume beer has a great clear golden-amber color and is fairly thin bodied. It has a distinct resiny aroma with noticeable citrus aspects, particularly grapefruit, while still allowing a light rich sweetness. It has a very smooth feel to it, and while the strong hops and citrus come through most distinctly, the taste is an outstanding blend of bitter strong hops and light rich toffee-esque malts which balance out the bitter flavor- with a smooth finish and a classic bitter hoppy IPA aftertaste. Overall, this is a very smooth beer which has a chance to achieve one of the rarest feats of all, which is to satisfy both the hardcore IPA lovers and those who can’t handle the super strong hoppy bitterness of the more intense IPAs like Hop Devil or Heady Topper. The Hop Notch IPA is very unique and certainly worth a try. Cheers!
