Saison - CHELSEA MA - 7.0%ABV

One thing I can definitely say about Mystic Brewing’s 7% ABV Saison is that it is very unique. First off let me say that really enjoyed this beer, and for those of you who don’t know, it comes in a corked 750ml bottle. When I poured the ice cold brew into my glass for the first time, I immediately noticed the tall, thick head of foam that the pour produced. Along with the 3 or 4 finger head (that eventually settles to about a finger width after about a minute) this farmhouse brew has a very cloudy brownish copper look to it which I would even go as far as to say looked a bit milky. It has a very solid aroma consisting of sweet malts along with Belgian yeast and spices with maybe even a hint of tartness(I’m pretty sure I can smell tartness!) The taste is very interesting; it is very sweet at first, with a slight hoppy bitterness that ends up blending very seamlessly with the malty sweetness and Belgian yeast. The finish is tart with a hint of spice and pepper. I thought this beer had an outstanding feel to it. It is medium bodied, very heavily carbonated, tingly and very refreshing. Now this was my first time ever trying this beer and I have to admit that I was a little nervous because it seemed to be somewhat of a polarizing brew in the beer tasting community. I had heard some heavy praise and some critical disappointment regarding the Mystic Saison, but after trying it, I have to say that I found it quite enjoyable and it is very different than any other saison I had previously sampled. So come down to Depot and grab a bottle, you might love it, you might hate it, but there is only one way to find out and I am very eager to hear what you all think of it. Cheers!
