Torpedo Extra IPA - Chico CA - 7.2 %ABV
by Derek Brewlander | October 4th, 2012
The Torpedo Extra IPA is an outstanding American IPA brewed by Sierra Nevada Brewing Company out in Chico, California. First off, this beer pours a great looking copper-golden color with a thick head that eventually dissipates down into a smaller cap. The lacing it leaves behind is excellent. The aroma is very hoppy and citrusy, with a very noticeable presence of sweet malts - more noticeable in the aroma than the taste itself - very easy on the senses! The flavor though, is really what sets this beer apart from your run of the mill everyday IPAs. It has a big hop presence, slightly sweet and citrusy at first with notes of grapefruit and spices- followed immediately by the bitter piny/resiny hops with a touch of pepper. It is a very aggressive and strong flavor(in a good way) that is slightly balanced by a small malt backbone. The mouthfeel is smooth, crisp and delightful; it is a medium to full bodied IPA, and finishes dry and smooth. This really is an outstanding IPA. It is robust and awesomely aggressive for an American IPA and extremely enjoyable to drink. I would also like to point out that this beer is not JUST for IPA lovers, while it has some strong hop flavors, it still manages to balance nicely and is such a great all around beer that it should be enjoyable to everybody. Also, Torpedo comes in both 6 pack bottles and 4 packs of tall cans which just makes it even more epic! Come down to Depot Liquors and grab yourself a few of these awesome IPAs, you won’t be disappointed. Cheers!
