FEST LAGER - PROVIDENCE RI - 5.5 %ABV
by Derek Brewlander | October 25th, 2012
And the underrated beer of the season goes to…..? You guessed it; this delightful Oktoberfest is not only delicious, but inexpensive AND comes in tallboy 16 oz. cans. The Fest lager pours a nice clear amber/orange with a small foam head that dissipates pretty quickly into a lasting thin film on the top and leaves subtle lacing on the sides of the glass. The aroma is very faint, slight hint of grains and dark German malts but nothing too wild. The flavor is very good, I’d even say it is surprisingly good. You really get those excellent German malts of a good Oktoberfest, with a little sweetness that seems to subtly last throughout. You get some toasty grain and caramel notes in there as well, with an ever so slight bitterness upon the finish from the light hops. It is a very mellow brew, in a good way. It is a fairly light to medium bodied brew with solid carbonation and a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. The Fest really blows your expectations right out of the water, not that I thought it would be bad – I enjoy Narragansett, but for a little over 8 bucks for six 16 oz beers, I did not expect this level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. This beer is not only well made, but delicious, very easy to drink, and one of the seasons very good Oktoberfests. And for the price, it is probably the best bargain of the season. So come on down to Depot and grab a six pack and drink up as you roam around in your grotesque adult Honey Boo Boo costume this Halloween, because I promise you that beers of this quality at such a reasonable price are few and far between. Cheers!
