Big Man IPA - Cambridge MA - 6.8% ABV
by Derek Brewlander | November 29th, 2012
This outstanding locally brewed craft American IPA is brewed by Cambridge Brewing Company out of, you guessed it, Cambridge, Mass. To begin with, it pours a great dark and hazy red/brown amber. Exquisite color when held up to the light. It has a light head that dissipates quickly and the lacing has great retention. The smell is a nice little combination of citrus, fresh hops and toasted grains. It is mouthwatering and lures you into taking that first delicious sip...Which in turns to be everything the aroma has promised your senses and then some. The hops are bold and big noted with great grapefruity citrus. Most surprisingly though, is how CBC managed to balance such great hop and citrus flavors with the perfect amount of toasty malts and hints of caramel and then finishes with a touch of orange and a slight hop bitterness - absolutely outstanding. This is a medium bodied American IPA with a crisp and smooth mouthfeel that make it a great and enjoyably refreshing brew. Overall, this is one of the best overall locally brewed American IPAs, or overall beers for that matter, that I have had the pleasure of reviewing. I can’t imagine any beer lover not enjoying the Big Man IPA with such great and big flavor. Come down to Depot Liquors and grab a cold 22 oz bottle and try it for yourself! But beware, according to Cambridge Brewing, this bold beer has “been known to bring about delusions of grandeur,” so make sure you are ready to think BIG. Cheers!
