Fall Seasonal Hard Cider - Middlebury, Vermont - 5% ABV
by Derek Brewlander | October 27th, 2012
It’s officially Fall! The equinox is behind us, the air is crisp and cool and leaves are starting to change. What better ways to enjoy the fall season than some apple picking, football (with real refs finally. WE SHOULD BE 2-1!!), and delicious crisp, cold hard cider. And nobody is more proficient in hard ciders than Vermont’s Woodchuck Cidery. Now before I start, I just want to make it clear that I am rating this as compared to other ciders and completely separate from beer comparisons. First of all, it pours a crisp, clear golden amber with no foam head to speak of - pretty standard fare for a good cider. The aroma is unreal. For me, cider sets the Fall mood more so than even pumpkin beers which come out earlier and earlier each year, and the aroma for this Fall seasonal cider is the essence of everything great about the season….in the form of a smell. You get apple freshness, hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and caramel and really makes you think fresh apple pie. The taste is outstanding as well. It has great fresh sweet and tart apple at its base, with tons of great seasonal spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel and notes of oak, it is a truly delicious combination that sometimes reminds of me an alcoholic caramel apple. Now it is a bit sweet, as are a lot of ciders, when you are in the mood for cider you expect it. It drinks crisp, cool, light and extremely refreshing. Wooduck specializes in cider and with this Fall season, they truly encapsulate the essence of the season. If you are in the mood for a nice cider this Fall, I recommend grabbing this delicious brew. And it is a limited release to get down to Depot Liquors and grab a 6 pack ASAP. Cheers!
